The Satchel Ruminations – To buy or not to buy October 18, 2012

I’m a satchel, an off-white, 14″ satchel, I live close to the City of Cambridge,
and this:”The Satchel Ruminations”, will be my contribution in the retrosatchels blog.

As I was baking cake for offspring #3’s birthday, I began to think over this whole birthday present buying thing.

It surely can be stressful!  Am I getting the right thing?  Is it fashionable?  Should I get one big present? Or a

mountain of smaller ones?  What would he/she like?  Is the present too old? Too young?  Too avant-guard? Too naff?

I came to a couple of conclusions,

1: Do not stress, I’m sure if you love it when you buy it, they will too.  It doesn’t have to be big or flashy, it is after all,

the thought that counts….isn’t it?

2: If you do want and are able to spend the money, always go for something classical that has stood the test of time,

years, decades even: and which will always remain a classic.  (I know what a classic is, after all I am one 🙂 )

A classic piece will always remain fashionable, they do not date with time and will be cherished for years to come.

The receiver will think of you every time it uses it.   More often than not, we actually spend more money on various,

smaller gifts which at the end of the day will not last the test of time,  than actually buying one classic, pricier, forever piece that

you will always be remembered for.

After all that ruminating whilst baking, I must say, the cake came out fine, and here’s the pic to prove it!

Me with the cake:

The Satchel Ruminations October 12, 2012

I’m a satchel, an off-white, 14″ satchel, I live close to the City of Cambridge,
and this:”The Satchel Ruminations”, will be my contribution in the retrosatchels blog.

Today I took dog #1 for a walk.

(I have two dogs, a boy and a girl, brother and sister.  They are terrier mix, BIG Jack Russell influence there!

If you know dogs, you’ll know that terriers are mostly naughty, loud and mischievous, and that is their charm!  However when it

comes to walking it is a bit of an inconvenience as I cannot take both dogs out at the same time.

If together on a walk, they egg each other on and join forces against any other poor,

unsuspecting, friendly dog.  So this is why I was just out with dog#1 on my walk this morning.

Which has nothing to do with what I want to write about today

but I thought I should explain why the dog is numbered.)

Back to my walk.  I have always thought England is most beautiful in the spring, when everything is

coming alive after the long winter, the greens are new and bright, colourful flowers are sprouting

everywhere and the air is filled with the anticipation of warmer weather.  But during my walk yesterday I must say

that Autumn comes very close to taking first spot!  The Autumn colours are just stunning,

and to show just that, I had my pic taken next to a wall of jaw-dropping

beautiful foliage.

Here’s my little homage to beautiful Autumn!

P.S. and as I described dog#1 in such detail, I thought I’d include a picture of us, on our walk, by the river:

What’s in YOUR bag? October 5, 2012

Trawling the web, I found this quote by Billy Connelly:

“A woman’s mind is as complex as the contents of her handbag;

even when you get to the bottom of it,

there is ALWAYS something at the bottom to surprise you!”

Well isn’t that true!  Got me thinking, what is at the bottom of your bag?

Times have changed.  It used to be all we carried was a purse, your lippy, keys, tissues, maybe?

But as our lives have become more complex, so have the contents of our handbags, or satchel, in my case 🙂

The contents of our bags have to deal with all the little emergencies life throws at you, whether it’s at the school gates:

some spare clean P.E. socks, a ruler, maybe a spare fountain pen, even a tiny sewing kit…I use mine all the

time,seriously; At work: your ipad/laptop, last minute make-up touch up, killer heels for interview, notes, papers, notebooks;

At the shops;  wipies, extra sweater for walking round the frozen section, shopping bag for life, headphones to make the shopping

more bearable, your phone/tablet or even good old-fashioned paper with the list;  Or out with the girls: book/mag/kindle in case they

are late, more make up, 3-D glasses  (as you never know whether you’ll end up at the cinema and all the movies seem to be 3-D

nowadays!),  a bit of chocolate in case you miss dinner.., headache pills, anti-acid tablets, maybe

a plaster or two in case you are still wearing those killer heels.

So, what is in your handbag/satchel?

We would love to know, think of it as a social experiment, generations will benefit….

Well, maybe not, but it should be a laugh and there may even be a prize in it for the most funny/outrageous/ out of this world

revelation.  ( please, keep it clean!)

Could that be YOUR bag?

EARLY XMAS WARNING October 3, 2012

Just heard on the radio:     just 82 days, 08 hours, 36 minutes, 14, no, 13, no, 12 … well you get my drift.. seconds.

I’m not one for starting Christmas shopping in October, not at all, I dislike seeing Christmas ornaments in the shops even a day before the 1st of December.

I normally leave all my shopping to the week before Christmas… after all, how boring would life be without a little pre-Christmas stress?

So this blog will undoubtedly take you, and even me, by surprise!  I’m going against my own principles, I’m bucking my own trend!  I’m going to give a Christmas warning!

“It is just October, for goodness sake!”, I hear you gasp and exclaim.

I know, I’m sorry, I’m bucking my own trend.

Hear me out, I beg:

If you are thinking of gifting one of our beautifully hand-crafted bespoken satchels, you are going to have to plan ahead 🙂

Please, don’t leave it to the last minute as Christmas is the busiest time of the year and time, in this case, does matter as we need to get the satchels made.

There goes my Christmas warning, in October!  Sorry, had to be done, now let’s get back to enjoying October and Halloween, I hear you say!
